Planning

This a storyboard that my group drew for our opening title sequence for our documentary, it lasts for 20 seconds.

These are the single frames my group drew for the interviews that we will conduct in the first five minutes of our documentary; Jane who had a gastric band inserted, a doctor, a nail technician, a hairdresser, a gym obsessive, a male who is obsessed with fake tan and a drag queen.

These are the interview questions we wrote for each of our interviewees, some questions below we did not use in our first five minutes but were in the initial plan.

Questions for the nail technician
Tell me about your job.
How long have you been a nail technician for?
What made you want to be a nail technician?
Do you think your appearance is important in this line of work?
On average how many people do you give beauty treatments to a day?
What’s the most popular beauty treatment?
Do you have boys come in and get beauty treatments as well as girls?
Why do you think people come and get beauty treatments?

Questions for the sunbed shop worker

How long have you worked here for?
Throughout the years in working here do you think the use of sunbeds has risen or fallen?
Do both men and women come in to use the sunbeds on a regular basis?
Do you think that the number of males who come into the shop has risen or fallen since you first started working here?
How many minutes does the average person go on the sunbed for?
Do you think the people who come in to use the sunbeds look like their appearance is a big factor in their life?
What does the crazy fit machine do? Do a lot of different ages use it?
The people you have seen use them on a regular basis; do they look any different from when they first started using them?

Questions for Jane who had the gastric band fitted

Why is it that you wanted a gastric band fitted?
How long did it take you to decide to get a gastric band?
Did you feel pressurised by society to change your body image?
Do you think that since having the band fitted you are seen in a different way by other people? If so in what way?
Would you recommend this procedure to others?

Questions for the Doctor

Would you recommend this procedure?
What does this procedure entail?
Are there any risks with this procedure?
On average how many people ask for a gastric band each year?
Apart from a gastric band what other methods would you recommend to lose weight?

Questions for the hairdresser

How long have you been a hairdresser for?
What made you want to become a hairdresser?
Do you think appearance is important in your line of work?
On average how many people come in for a haircut a day?
Since the credit crunch have people been coming to the hairdressers less frequently?

Questions for the male obsessed with fake tan

Would you say that your appearance is important to you? If so why?
How long does it usually take you to get ready before a night out?
What is your usual routine to get ready?
Why do you get a spray tan?
How often do you get a spray tan?
Why do you prefer a spray tan to a sun bed or sun shower?
Do you think there is a negative stigma attached with a male getting a spray tan? If so why do you think this?

Questions for the drag queen

Tell me about your job, what does it entail?
What or who introduced you to this line of work?
When was the first time you dressed up like a woman and why?
Do you feel more confident whilst dressed up than you do when you are in male clothes?
What is your favourite woman's outfit to wear?
On a regular night how long does it usually take you to get ready?
Do you wear make up every day?
Where do you buy your make up products from?
Do you get male or female make up?
Are you in a relationship?
Does your partner mind that you dress up or do they not have a problem with it?
Would you say there is a negative stigma attached with being a drag queen? If so why do you think this is?

These are the questions which were in the original running order but since we re drafted it they no longer feature in the first five minutes.

Questions for the make up artist

Tell me about your job.
How long have you been a make up artist for?
What made you want to be a make up artist?
Do you think your appearance is important in this line of work?
On average how many people do you give makeovers to a day?
Do you have boys come in and get makeovers as well as girls?
Why do you think people come and get makeovers?

Questions for a Gym person (male & female)

How often do you go the gym?
What exercises do you do when you go the gym?
Do you take any exercise supplements?
Why do you feel the need to go the gym?
Do you have an ideal shape/figure that you want to achieve from coming here?

These are the five vox pops questions which we will film for our documentary to see which one we like the best.
